My sister and I had dinner with a friend at a izakaya, where she introduced us to eihire yaki (エイヒレ焼き), a favorite and popular item among locals.

Eihire (エイヒレ) is commonly known as stingray fin, but it could also refer to skate fin (the two are similar species). Yaki (焼き) means to grill. Eihire yaki means either grilled (dried) stingray or skate fin.

The eihire was served with a mayo and shichimi (spice mixture) dip. The eihire had a rubbery-looking lined texture that made it easy to rip into pieces. Like beef jerky, it was chewy. It also tasted like a thinner version of beef jerky.

Eihire also goes really well with glass of beer, wine, or mixed drink!
